New York City has the largest drinking water system in the country, made up of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes, delivering 1.2 billion gallons of water per day through 300 miles of aqueducts and tunnels and 6,000 miles of distribution conduits and pipes.

The Catskill-Delaware Watershed accounts for 90 percent of New York City’s drinking water supply, housing 9 of the 19 reservoirs and is one of only five water systems in the United States that remain unfiltered.
